Mommy, Daddy, & Ethan Weekend!

We are coming off such a wonderful weekend - one where we were in town, had no concrete plans, and just got to spend time together as a family - mommy, daddy, and Ethan! Eric only had to work half a day on Friday so while he was working, Ethan and I went to the park after lunch. He had the whole playground to himself...maybe because I was the only crazy momma who took their kid to the park in the scorching heat at the hottest part of the day?? Oops! He had fun going down the slide, but mostly wanted to swing. We headed home for Ethan's afternoon nap and daddy went and hit a bucket of balls at the driving range. When Ethan woke up, we headed to the Country Club for his first dip in the pool of the season. We were excited to 're-introduce' him to the baby pool because he only went one or two times last year. He had an absolute blast splashing around and tossing a tennis ball back and forth with daddy. And yes, those are supposed to be shorts on him...not pants! Haha, his little waist couldn't hold his shorts up so we definitely need to go buy some smaller swim trunks!
After Ethan went to bed that night, Eric and I topped off a great day with an awesome meal out on the grill - pepperjack hamburgers with mushrooms and bbq sauce and grilled corn on the cob - yum!

Ethan has been really cute in the mornings (on the weekends) and loves to go wake up daddy after he's had his bottle. He pushes our bedroom door open, marches right over to his side of the bed, and greets daddy with the biggest smile!! Ethan loves when daddy brings him up into bed with him and the two can share morning cuddles (more like wrestling). We started our Saturday morning off right - with yummy pancakes followed by a two-mile walk. It was such a beautiful day out so we headed downtown for lunch on Kirkwood and ate outside. Taking Ethan downtown is always fun because there is so much for him to look at and be amazed by - the city buses, all the bicycles, people walking their dogs, etc. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

That evening, Eric and I did something we hardly ever do...went on a date! Mamaw was excited to come babysit Ethan and we were equally excited to go cheer on the baseball Hoosiers during the NCAA Regionals. We laughed at ourselves when we left because of course Ethan was bawling, we're running around making sure everything is set for his nighttime routine, and we're still barking out instructions as we're walking out the door...clearly we don't do this often! We had a great time at the game though and even topped off the Hoosier victory with some milkshakes from Steak-n-Shake on the way home! Mamaw said Ethan had a really good night, but couldn't help but feel bad for him when he kept going to the door and coming back with a sad face like "where are my parents"??

The three of us got up Sunday and took our two-mile walk after breakfast before it got too hot. We knew it was going to be another nice day so after lunch we decided to take Ethan to the splash pad at Karst Farm Park. We hadn't been there before and now we know it will be one of our go-to places for the summer! One, it's free! Two, it's fun!! Three, it's so close to our house!
Ethan had a ball checking out all the different poles and sprinklers that were spitting out water and liked watching the bigger kids run through the streams of water. It really is such a joy watching your baby experience something for the first time - he was so intrigued by the water...how it would turn off and on, how it would splash him in the face if he touched it, etc. He is just the best!!

We must've absolutely wore him out this weekend because even after an afternoon nap today, he was still pretty fussy/cranky/emotional. Eric gave him a bath and then the only thing he wanted to do was lay in mommy and daddy's bed and relax. Bless his heart - he laid his head on daddy's pillow and even pulled the covers up over his legs! So we all three just laid there in bed and had quiet time and it was perfect =)

Today is the first day of June - the month we get to meet our baby girl! We have every weekend jam packed until June 26 so weekends like this at home are so appreciated. I know we will still be able to do fun things after baby girl is here, but I am literally soaking up moments like this weekend where it's just me, Eric, and Ethan. I found myself getting all emotional today because the last couple days have been such a joy and have enjoyed every minute with my boys. I am certainly one lucky wife and momma!!

  1. Wow! That is really one fun-filled weekend, Jamie! Ethan sure looks like he had the most fun. I can see that he really loves the water, doesn't he? Anyway, I don't know how you do it, but I'm sure now that Emerson is around, weekends like that will be happening a lot more frequently. Hahaha! Thanks for always sharing the fun with us! All the best to you and your family! :)
