13 Month Update!

Ethan won't be 13 months until next week, but thought I would update everyone on what he's been up to lately!
Can't get enough of this sweet face!
  • He can officially walk behind his musical scooter!! It's SO exciting! In the past, we would have to hold the scooter because he would push it so far forward and just bend at the waist - something wasn't clicking that he needed to actually step. But like people always say, it happened overnight and all of a sudden he can walk behind it like a pro!
  • He can push himself into a baby yoga pose - the downward dog! He's working on strengthening his leg muscles so he can take off walking by himself soon!
  • Ethan is really good at taking his bib off. All.The.Time. =)
I wake up happy from my naps!
  • He's always loved bath time, but it's taken on a whole new meaning now that he can crawl. The second he hears the water running, he takes off down the hallway squealing with delight! It's so cute!
  • We did find out last week that Ethan is allergic to egg whites. We had him tested during his one-year appointment after he had a major reaction to a scrambled egg a couple months prior. He will go see a pediatric allergist in November where they will do further testing to see if he has any other allergies. Knowledge is power and Eric and I will feel so much more relieved once we know for sure what his allergies are!
  • What's been on the menu for Ethan lately? For breakfast, he will eat rice cereal mixed with apples or pears with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Then I usually feed him a blueberry waffle, a pancake, a muffin, or a piece of toast with a little butter on it. For lunch and dinner, he gets some mix of fruit/veggie puree followed by finger foods. Lately, he's loving deli ham and Nutri-Grain granola bars. He also seems to love anything dipped in hummus! And that's on top of his old favorites of chicken, broccoli, green beans, and blueberries!
Melt my heart with this look.
He's been fighting a runny nose all this week so we've been hanging low at the house. We were just saying the other day that it's amazing Ethan hasn't been sick at all yet! I don't count runny noses as being sick so we are very lucky that we've steered clear of ear infections, flu-like bugs, etc. We will keep our fingers crossed as we head into cooler weather!

We are looking forward to spending the weekend with cousins Jayden and Kaleb!
I like pop-up books!

A Little of This, A Little of That

Hello!

Who said summer is over?! It's supposed to be 95 degrees today in mid-September! Ethan and I went for a walk this morning before it got too hot...now we will spend the day indoors in the refreshing A/C!

We had a lot of fun tailgating last weekend for the IU/Navy game. Our cousin, Dominic, is a junior cadet at Navy and it was great seeing him again. Kristen did an awesome job setting up a kid-friendly tailgate with a big blanket, lots of toys, and snacks! Ethan looked SO cute in his IU jersey (thanks cousin Jayden)! We hung out for a couple hours and then headed home so we could put Ethan to bed. This Saturday's game is at noon so I'm thinking Eric, Ethan, and I will actually go to the game...yea!!

We've got lunch dates scheduled with Ginka today, Grandpa Joe on Thursday, and maybe a play date on Friday. Other than that, business as usual around here!

Hope everyone has a great week!

One Year Stats!

My little one-year old!
Ethan had a great check up last week for his one year appointment! Minus the three shots and drawing of blood, he was one happy and smiling boy for the nurses and Dr. Newby! He weighed in at 18 lbs. 7 oz. (still 3rd percentile) and measured 29 3/4" (50th percentile). Dr. Newby is very happy with where he is physically and developmentally and we don't go back for our next check up until December!

We took a couple trips to the pool last week to enjoy the last days of summer which have been very hot! He is such a little fishy - every time I would sit him on the side of the pool he would grab my hands for me to pull him back in the water. He loves it!

Love this face!
Ethan is a crawling machine now. The first two weeks he wasn't really into it - it was like he mastered a new trick, but wasn't impressed. Now he crawls from room to room and it's hilarious. Sometimes we tell him "I'm gonna get you..." and he takes off down the hallway with a huge smile on his face. I've already made two trips to Target to get outlet covers...WHY must kids always go for outlets and cords?! Since when are your toys not cool to play with? He still loves standing more so than crawling. He's constantly grabbing our fingers so he can pull up to stand. Just within the last couple days he is starting to "pull up" on certain objects...he can pull up to his knees and that's it. When we face him outward and hold his hands above his head, he's now starting to actually take a step which is a huge improvement. He may not be crawling for long!

He's also in a stage where he loves to throw things. Toys, food, shoes, you name it. Most of the time it's pretty funny - he will grab every single toy out of his basket and throw it as far as possible. Of course it's not so funny when he's throwing food off the highchair tray, but oh well. He also is going through a "I hate my car seat and changing table" phase...*sigh*.

Reading the 1-year old 'tips' from the doc!
The look as the door opened for his shots!
We are headed to our first IU tailgate of the season this weekend! Can't wait to see little man sporting his IU jersey! It will be a far cry from his last tailgate when he was seven weeks old!

Go Hoosiers!
